How to Play
Step 1: Set up your Figgy in with your child into a “leprechaun trap” - there are lots of fun ways to do this. Work with your child to come up with the perfect idea!
Step 2: Decorate your trap with St. Patrick’s Day decorations. Encourage you child to draw or make decorations and then assist them in cutting them out (if needed) and sticking or taping them to the Figgy.
Step 3: Place your leprechaun “bait” that leads to the gold coins in the trap. Have fun and get creative!
Step 4: Ask your child if they want to be the leprechaun - let them wear the leprechaun hat and attempt to go through the trap. You can even play sneaky music! Encourage your child to practice gross motor skills such as going on tip-toes, hopping on two-feet (or one!) picking up “bait” using their fingers, ducking down low to go through the opening or climbing up and into the trap. You can pretend to catch them in the end! For older kids you can time it and see if they can get through the trap to the coins in X number of seconds.
These are great OT/PT activities that the whole family can enjoy together! Ask your therapist for additional activities you can do with your Figgy.
