A side-by-side breakdown from a family that's owned all three.
If you're shopping for a kids' play couch right now, you've probably noticed the same thing every parent notices: there are a lot of options, they all look kind of similar in photos, and the price range is wider than you'd expect for what's basically foam and fabric. The three names that come up most are Figgy, Nugget, and Foamnasium — and the differences between them matter more than you'd think.
We've had all three in our house. Here's what we actually learned.
The Quick Version
If you just want the bottom line: Figgy gives you the most pieces, the best safety certifications, the longest warranty, and the most build flexibility. Nugget is the original and the most affordable. Foamnasium is the easiest to clean if you have very young kids or messy pets. Each one has a real reason to exist — but they're built for different priorities.
What You Get in the Box
This is where the differences start to show up immediately.
Figgy comes with six pieces in the standard set (or seven in the full set): four identical base cushions plus triangle wedges. Every single piece separates completely and connects with Figgy's patent-pending Velcro system. That means any piece can attach to any other piece, in any direction. When your kid wants to build a castle one day and a slide the next, they're not limited by which pieces are sewn together.
Nugget comes with four pieces: one base, one cushion, and two triangle pillows. The base and cushion fold together, which makes storage simple but limits what you can build. The pieces don't separate the way Figgy's do — the base cushions are sewn in pairs — so if your kid wants to spread them out across the room, there's a ceiling on how creative they can get.
Foamnasium Blocksy also comes with four pieces: two folding bases and two wedge cushions. The Blocksy+ bumps that up and adds more building options. It's a solid set, but it doesn't have the same connector system that Figgy uses, so builds tend to be simpler.
Price Comparison (2026)
Let's talk money, because this is usually where the conversation starts.
The Nugget is the most affordable at $249. For a play couch that started the entire category, that's a competitive price point. You're getting a proven product that millions of families have used.
The Foamnasium Blocksy starts at $239 for vinyl covers (their Timeless Classic line) and $289 for their enhanced fabric covers (the Rough & Tumble line). The Blocksy+ with more pieces runs $349. There's also a Mini version at $149 if you want to test the waters with younger toddlers.
The Figgy starts at $349 for the full set. That's the most expensive option, and it's worth understanding why before deciding whether the premium is worth it for your family.
Build Quality and Durability
This is where paying more for Figgy starts to make sense — or doesn't, depending on how your kids use it.
Figgy's foam is equally thick across every cushion. This sounds like a small detail, but it's not. When your kid builds a tower or a bridge, the structure holds because there isn't one thin piece collapsing under the weight of a thicker one. Figgy uses CertiPUR-US certified foam and backs it with a 10-year warranty. Ten years. That's kindergarten through high school.
Nugget also uses CertiPUR-US certified foam, and it's comfortable and well-made. But the warranty is 2 years. If you're buying this for a toddler and hoping it lasts through elementary school, that's a meaningful difference in how much the company is willing to stand behind the product. Nugget is manufactured in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Foamnasium uses high-density CertiPUR-US foam as well. It's sturdy and holds up to active play. They offer a 1-year limited manufacturer warranty — the shortest of the three brands. Made entirely in Indiana.
Safety Certifications
If you're the kind of parent who reads labels — and if you're researching play couches this carefully, you probably are — here's what each brand brings to the table.
Figgy has the most third-party certifications of any play couch on the market: CertiPUR-US foam, GREENGUARD Gold certified fabrics, Oeko-TEX certified, and independent testing for lead, BPA, BPS, PVC, phthalates, and formaldehyde. The foam is made without flame retardants (PBDEs), heavy metals, or high VOCs. It's also made entirely in the USA.
Nugget uses CertiPUR-US certified foam and is also GREENGUARD Gold certified. No flame-retardant chemicals, and passes California's TB-117 standard. Covers are machine washable. Made in the USA (North Carolina).
Foamnasium is CertiPUR-US certified, GREENGUARD Gold certified, and CPSIA compliant. Their covers are flame-resistant without FR chemicals, lead-free, and phthalate-free. Made in the USA (Indiana).
All three brands carry both CertiPUR-US and GREENGUARD Gold certifications — that's a solid baseline. Where Figgy goes further is with Oeko-TEX certification on fabrics and additional independent third-party testing for specific substances (lead, BPA, BPS, PVC, phthalates, and formaldehyde) beyond what the standard certifications cover. We explain what each certification actually means in our play couch safety guide.
Fabric and Cleaning
This one depends on your household.
Figgy offers five fabric options: Performance Microsuede+ (tear-resistant, great for rough play), Luxe Velvet (water-shedding and stain-resistant), Luxe Flatweave (pet hair brushes right off), Luxe Corded Plush (the coziest texture), and Tennessee Cotton (hypoallergenic and breathable). All of them are machine washable and dryer-safe. You can also add waterproof liners. Replacement cover sets start at $175 and go up to $365 depending on fabric, so you can swap out colors or replace worn covers years down the road.
Nugget offers a wide range of colors (25+ at last count, including collabs) in their microsuede fabric. Covers are removable and machine washable. The fabric is soft and holds up well, but there's one fabric type — you're choosing color, not material.
Foamnasium goes a different direction entirely. They offer two cover lines: vinyl covers (their Timeless Classic line) and enhanced fabric covers (Rough & Tumble). Neither is machine washable — both are designed to be wiped down with mild soap and water. If your toddler is in the heavy-spilling phase, that's a real advantage. The tradeoff is that wipeable covers don't feel as cozy or "living room friendly" as Figgy's or Nugget's machine-washable fabrics.
The Velcro Question
This deserves its own section because it's the single biggest functional difference.
Figgy's Velcro connector system means every piece attaches to every other piece. Your kid can build vertically, horizontally, combine multiple Figgys together, and actually create structures that stay put. A five-year-old can build a fort that doesn't collapse when they climb on it. An eight-year-old can design obstacle courses. This is the feature that parents consistently say surprised them — builds actually work in ways they don't with other play couches.
Nugget and Foamnasium don't have this. Pieces sit on top of each other or next to each other, and gravity does the work. That's fine for younger toddlers who are mostly climbing and jumping, but it limits what older kids can do.
So Which One Should You Buy?
Buy the Figgy if: you want the most versatile, longest-lasting play couch with the best safety profile. The price premium pays for itself over 10 years of use, especially if you have multiple kids who'll grow into increasingly creative builds. You also care about fabric choice and want something that looks good in your living room, not just your playroom.
Buy the Nugget if: you want a proven, affordable play couch and your kids are on the younger side (1–4). It's a great first play couch, especially if you're not sure how much your family will use it. The $249 price point makes it the easiest entry into the category.
Buy the Foamnasium if: easy cleanup is your top priority. Toddlers who are still in the spilling-everything phase, households with muddy dogs, or families who don't want to deal with removable covers and washing machines. The wipeable surface is a genuine lifestyle feature.
One More Thing
Whichever play couch you choose, your kids are going to love it. These things get used every single day in most households — for play, for reading, for movie nights, for building, for crashing into after school. The "best" play couch is the one that fits your family's life. We just think it's worth knowing exactly what you're getting before you spend the money.
