New to play couches? Here’s all of it, plainly.

What they actually are, whether one fits your room, how many years kids really use them, and why the good ones cost more than the one you saw for $249.

The Figgy play couch set up in a living room

What is a play couch?

A play couch is a modular foam furniture set built for imaginative, active play. Kids stack, flip, slide, and reconfigure the cushions into forts, ramps, tunnels, and obstacle courses — then put it back together as a couch when they’re done.

That’s the category. What separates one from another is whether the pieces actually stay where a kid puts them.

Overview of the seven Figgy play couch pieces

The Figgy isn’t just another foam couch. It’s the only play couch with:

  • Velcro connectors for secure builds

Will it fit your room?

This is the question we get most, and sizing is one of the most common reasons any play couch goes back. So here are the actual numbers.

  • 4 Square bases33" × 33" × 4.5" each
  • 2 BolstersBackrests, walls, or barriers
  • 1 WedgeA true ramp, not a flat-topped step

Laid out flat in a 2×2 square, the four bases cover roughly 66 by 66 inches. Assembled as a couch it takes up far less. Either way, measure your space before you order — our return policy can’t cover sizing when measurements weren’t taken.

The Long Game

Ages 1 to adult. And they keep going back to it.

The worry with a play couch is that it’s a toddler thing they’ll outgrow in eighteen months. That’s true of a cheap one. A good one changes job every couple of years instead.

Ours is warrantied for ten. That number isn’t marketing — it’s roughly how long one child uses it before it becomes furniture again.

  1. Ages 1–2 Low to the ground and soft to land on. Crawling over, climbing up, falling off without consequence.
  2. Ages 3–5 Fort season. Walls, roofs, hiding places, and the same seven pieces rebuilt forty different ways.
  3. Ages 6–9 Ramps, slides, obstacle courses, tumbling mats. This is where the Velcro earns its keep.
  4. Ages 10+ A couch again. Homework, movie nights, and the sleepover that suddenly needs four more beds.

The Honest Math

Why it costs more than the one you saw

You will find play couches for $249, and that’s a real price. It’s just not the whole number. Here’s what changes when you look at cost over the life of the thing instead of the sticker.

Our Story

Figgy Q&A

Built better. Made to last.

Every detail of Figgy was created with safety, durability, and everyday family living in mind. From the inside-out construction to the performance fabrics, this isn’t just another play couch — it’s a long-term investment in better play.

Each Figgy is hand-cut and crafted in Georgia using premium, non-toxic materials and rigorous quality standards. We don’t cut corners, because your kids shouldn’t play on something that does.

Why does Figgy come with a 10-Year Warranty?

Because we built it to last that long. Figgy is designed for years of climbing, jumping, fort-building, and everyday play — not just a season. If something goes wrong due to craftsmanship, we’ve got you covered.

What makes Figgy’s foam different?

We use high quality foam that is low VOC and tested for durability and safety. It’s supportive enough for builds, soft enough for lounging, and made without harmful chemicals.

Are the fabrics really safe for kids?

Yes. Our luxury performance fabrics are tested to be harmful chemical-free and built for everyday messes. They’re durable, soft to the touch, and designed specifically for real kid life.

How does Figgy stay together during play?

Velcro connectors on all four base cushions. They attach securely so forts don’t fall over and builds stay sturdy, even during high-energy play. The bolsters and wedge sit in place by gravity rather than attaching.

What happens if there’s a spill?

No stress. Waterproof liners are available for every cushion, and the covers are removable and machine-washable. Juice boxes and snack time are welcome here.

What are zipper garages and why do they matter?

Safety is in the details. Zipper garages tuck hardware away to prevent scratches, and fabric-covered handles make moving cushions safe and easy.

Can I expand my Figgy build with additional pieces?

Yes. Figgy is fully modular, so you can grow your setup over time. Add extra rectangles, wedges, or half-moons for bigger forts, longer slides, wider lounges, and more elaborate builds.

How much floor space do I need?

Each base cushion is 33 inches square. Assembled as a couch it takes up far less room than that suggests, but a full flat build spreads out — so measure your space before ordering. Our return policy can’t cover sizing when measurements weren’t taken.

Highly recommend! We love this play couch. We compared different brands for a while and are so glad we chose the Figgy. We love the extra pieces available and the waterproof liners are an added benefit. It’s very sturdy and my husband and I sit on it with our child often as well. Customer service has also been great.

My husband and I spend hours playing with my son building forts and obstacle courses, using them as tumbling mats and towers, and everything in between. The Figgy couch has been one of the best gifts we’ve given our son. I also deeply appreciate that they are manufactured using non-toxic materials.

Order a swatch set and feel the fabrics before you commit anything. It ships flat, it costs a fraction of a couch, and it answers the color question better than any screen can.
